Q: What Is LocalSearch.com?
A: LocalSearch.com is a Web site that allows you to find information on people, places, things and events near your desired location. Use it to find a friend's phone number or a local business that offers the product or service you need. LocalSearch.com goes beyond providing basic contact information. It also provides a wealth of detailed information on businesses, coupled with convenient maps and directions. It is the goal of LocalSearch.com Find It! to provide you with the most relevant results for your search. The more specific your search, the more relevant your results. For general searches, LocalSearch.com Find It! provides tools on the right margin so you can narrow down your choices to the listings that most closely fit your needs.
Q: What types of keywords should I use to get the best results?
A: LocalSearch.com was built to handle a variety of keywords. See some examples.
Q: Are there advertisers in the listing results?
A: Yes, LocalSearch.com does display advertisers in the Featured Sites section at the top of each results page. Listings in the Results section appear purely based on their relevancy to your search term.
Q: How come when I'm looking for a person, Business listings are returned?
A: Sometimes a query for a person's name can bring back results for local businesses that are related to that person's name. For example a search for Howard Johnson in Cincinnati, OH might return a listing for a matching hotel by that name. When this happens, a link will be displayed above the Business listings so that you can change to Residential Listings and look for white pages listings. Just click "Show me Residential results for .".
Q: How can I remove my Residential listing on LocalSearch.com?
A: To remove a Residential listing, click on your name and then click the update/remove listing link. Requests are usually updated within 5 business days.
Q: How can I update my Business listing on LocalSearch.com?
A: To update a Business listing, click on your business name to reach the business detail page. Below the business information to the left of the map, you'll find a link to Update or Remove your Business listing.
Q: What are Recent Locations?
A: For your convenience, LocalSearch.com automatically keeps track of your past 5 recent search locations. This is done in an effort to save you time and effort typing in the same keywords over and over. Your information is not tracked or otherwise used by LocalSearch.com.
Q: What happens if I do a search and fill in the Who or What box, but leave the Location (Where) box empty?
A: If you do a search with just the What box filled in, a standard Web search will be performed.
Q: What if I do a search with the Who or What box empty but the Location (Where) box is filled in?
A: If you do a search with just the Location box filled out with an address, point of interest, landmark or neighborhood, a map will be displayed.
Q: How can I look up the address for a phone number (Reverse Lookup)?
A: Entering a phone number in the Who or What box will return the listing for the matching business. You do not need to fill in the Location (Where) box when doing a phone number search. Residential phone lookup is currently not supported.
Results Page Questions
Q: How are the results displayed?
A: When you do a search, all results are automatically sorted with the most likely matches to your search term at the top.
Q: Can I sort my search results?
A: Yes. Once you have received results, you can sort them by Distance from your current location, or by Name using the links just above your search results. If you enter a specific street address, the Sort by Distance results will be sorted by distance from your exact location. If you only enter a City name, results will be sorted from the center of that city.
Q: How do I filter my results?
A: You can filter results from any results page in the Refine Results section on the right side of the page. All categories and sub-categories displayed in this section will be based on your search. For instance, if you searched on restaurants in Phoenix, you could then use the category area to narrow down the type of cuisine you're looking for (Italian, Mexican, Steakhouse, etc.) or by type of menu items you're interested in (burgers, pizza, seafood).
Q: How do I view my results on a Map?
A: To view your search results within the context of a map, click the View Results on Map button in the top right section of your results area.
Q: Can I get Maps and Directions for my listing?
A: Yes. Click the Map or Driving Directions links underneath any listing for those details.
Q: What is the What's Nearby ® section for on the Map pages?
A: The What's Nearby ® section appears to the right of any Map listing. It allows you to pinpoint areas of interest nearby a particular location. For instance, if you found the location of a movie theater you will be going to, you can quickly find the nearest ATM or restaurant to that theater.
Q: What is the More Nearby section for on the Map Pages?
A: Once you have located a business or residence on a map, the More Nearby box allows you to search for nearby businesses by name or category of your choice.
Q: What should I do if a listing I found at LocalSearch.com is wrong?
A: Please click the Feedback link at the bottom of any page to provide us with any feedback you may have. If you want to update information for your own business, click your business name to reach the business detail page. Below the business information to the left of the map, you'll find a link to Update or Remove your Business listing.
Q: What are Featured Sites?
A: The Featured Sites area displays those advertisers who have paid to have their businesses displayed on LocalSearch.com .
